With unseanonably warm weather the 1998 Maine State Table Tennis Championship enjoyed the largest turnout in years. With a full slate of events most players enjoyed a day filled with matches in one of the state's premier table tennis facilities.
The "B" Singles was the stage of the most exciting showdown of the day. While Derrick Faureau advanced through the winners bracket John Govestes ventured into the loser's bracket after his second match. This forced the potential of a loser's bracket victory for John. He beat Derrick in two straight matches with the final match being decided at duece in the third game! Both players handled the championship caliber pressure and entertained the spectators with nail biting drama! While the more senior John ultimately survived you Derrick's efforts we are certain to see Derrick improve by next year's tournament!
