Lekousi, a veteran table tennis with titles and comptetative play in
the state for decades, took the opportunity of the 1999 State
Championship to display a remarkable ability and consistency that
very clearly showed why he dominated state play for so many years.
While the final score card shows him placing fourth it does not
reflect the awesome display he gave his opponents and the assembled
spectators. He easily won the grueling qualifying round with
convincing play and astounding shotmaking despite being 50 years
older than some of his opponents. His compact stroke and relentless
flat, driving forehands wore down opponent after opponent. Combined
with his steady defense and minimal unforced errors he produced some
of the most exciting and remarkable victories in the past decade of
Championship Table Tennis in Maine!
